Sunihara

The resort at Coorg demanded a holistic design: from master planning the estate, to the interiors of the villas to the landscape that connected them and finally the branding for the project. Each of these tasks required the team to devise distinct concepts and strategies of approach. The master-plan was to be robust and integrated, allowing for multiple paths of circulation without being chaotic. Local context such as existing natural elements, trees and water bodies were to be fused with the new architecture: creating a seamless whole. Rather than just the visual, a sensory experience was to be simulated with a focus on sound, smell and touch. As a result, the strategies involved creating a dispersed master-plan that encourages wandering, using natural, locally sourced materials that come together to create rustic, simple yet elegant architecture that is one with it’s surroundings.
